About the book
I'm going to take the liberty of deciding our first book on my own, but methinks y'all will find this book interesting; it's popular for a good reason! The Screwtape Letters is a collection of fictional letters from the demon Screwtape to his nephew, advising him on how best to manipulate the human he has been assigned to. It's by C.S. Lewis. We'll probably read more of his books at some point, but I'll try to have a variety of authors/genres.
About the author
I was originally going to research and write a little paragraph here, but I found a wonderfully comprehensive article. So, I shall simply put the link to it here: http://www.christianitytoday.com/history/issues/issue-7/cs-lewis-profile-of-his-life.html
About the genre
This fictional book falls into three genres: Epistolary novel, Christian apologetics, and satire.
Epistolary refers to books that are collections of things like letters, newspaper clippings, diary entries, and other documents.
Christian apologetics is simply the logical defense of Christian beliefs.
Satire is "A literary work in which human foolishness or vice is attacked through irony, derision, or wit." (thanks www.thefreedictionary.com!)
And here's a bonus article, just for kicks: http://mentalfloss.com/article/64351/12-things-you-might-not-know-about-screwtape-letters
